Privacy policy

How Adjective handles information on adjective.us: the contact form, the Ultimus chat, cookies, and the service providers involved.

The short version

  • We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not sell your information.
  • We count visits with Vercel’s cookieless analytics, which records the pages viewed and general device details without identifying you.
  • Browsing this site sets no cookies.
  • If you use the Ultimus chat, two short-lived cookies keep your session working, and your messages are processed by our AI model provider to write replies.
  • If you send the contact form, or ask the chat to send us your conversation, we receive it by email.

Introduction

Adjective (“we,” “our,” or “us”) runs the website at adjective.us (the “Site”). This policy explains what information the Site handles, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. It describes what the Site actually does today, and we update it when that changes.

Information we collect

Information you send us

  • Contact form: your name, your email address, whether you currently run agents in production, and the outcome you want to achieve.
  • Chat: the messages you type to Ultimus, our AI assistant.
  • “Send to Rob” in the chat: if you choose it, we receive the conversation and the email address you give us.

Information collected automatically

  • Hosting logs. Our hosting provider, Vercel, records each request to the Site (IP address, browser and device details, the page requested, and the time) so it can serve and secure the Site.
  • Visit counts. Vercel Web Analytics records which pages are viewed, the referring site, and general details such as country, browser, operating system and device type. It sets no cookies. It recognizes a repeat visit only through a hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, so it cannot follow you from one day to the next or across other sites.   • Page speed. Vercel Speed Insights records how quickly pages load, with the page, browser and device type, so we can keep the Site fast. It sets no cookies. See Vercel’s Speed Insights privacy notes.
  • Abuse limits. To stop bots and overuse, the contact form and the chat count requests per IP address. These counters last from a minute to a day and are not linked to your name.
  • Human check. The contact form and the chat use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It loads only when you use one of them. Loading it sends your IP address and some browser signals to Cloudflare, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

Cookies and similar storage

Browsing the Site sets no cookies. These are the only ones we use, and all are essential:

  • ultimus_s: keeps your chat session verified. Set only after you send a chat message and pass the human check. It is HttpOnly, is sent only to our chat routes, and expires after 30 minutes.
  • ultimus_seen: remembers that this browser passed the check, so the chat does not ask again during the session. It expires after 30 minutes.

We also store one item in your browser’s local storage, cookie-notice, to remember that you dismissed the cookie notice. It is not a cookie and is never sent to us.

What we do not use

  • Google Analytics, or any analytics that sets cookies or follows you across sites
  • Advertising cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Third-party fonts (our fonts are served from our own domain)

If that ever changes, we will update this page and the cookie notice before it does.

The Ultimus chat

Ultimus is an AI assistant. When you send a message, the conversation so far and the page you are on are sent to our AI model provider, Baseten, to write a reply. We do not store chat conversations on our servers: while you chat, the conversation lives in your browser, and it is gone when you close the page. We only receive a copy if you choose “Send to Rob”.

Please do not enter passwords, keys, or sensitive personal or classified information into the chat. Replies are generated by AI and can be wrong.

How we use your information

  • To respond to your inquiries and briefing requests
  • To provide the service you asked for
  • To keep the Site secure and prevent abuse
  • To comply with legal obligations

Information sharing

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Site:

  • Vercel: hosting
  • Resend: delivering the emails the contact form and “Send to Rob” produce
  • Cloudflare: the Turnstile human check
  • Baseten: the AI model that writes chat replies
  • Upstash: short-lived rate-limit counters, if we enable it

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect our rights, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

Data security

  • The Site is served over HTTPS only.
  • The chat session cookie is signed, HttpOnly, and limited to our chat routes.
  • Server credentials are kept out of the browser.
  • Requests to the form and the chat are rate limited and checked for bots.

No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

  • Contact form submissions and chat handoffs arrive as email. We keep them as long as we need them to respond and for our business records, typically up to 2 years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
  • Chat conversations are not stored by us.
  • Rate-limit counters last from a minute to a day.
  • Hosting logs are kept by Vercel under its own retention terms.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your personal information
  • Object to or restrict how we process it
  • Receive a copy of it in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent you have given

We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the contact form.

The Site links to other websites, including the Technology Feed. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies.

Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

International users

The Site is operated in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date.
